Don't Throw Them

"Don't Throw Them" is an artwork that utilizes a series of nine Polaroid photographs, all of which have resulted in failed exposures, producing nothing but blank or heavily obscured images. Among these nine failed snapshots, there is one particular Polaroid where faint, elusive details are discernible, yet the subject's face remains veiled in mystery.

This artwork captures a poignant and contemplative concept, centering around the inherent transience of moments in life. The Polaroid, known for its one-shot nature, symbolizes the irreplaceable and ephemeral nature of moments. Once taken, a Polaroid photograph cannot be duplicated or retaken, making it a singular representation of a specific moment in time.

The choice of using failed Polaroid images adds an additional layer of depth to the piece. These photographs, which didn't capture any recognizable image, serve as a metaphor for those moments in life that are missed or elude our grasp. The inherent imperfections in these Polaroids highlight the idea that some moments are meant to remain elusive, hidden, or forgotten.

The obscured face in one of the Polaroids accentuates the notion that there are moments in our lives that will forever remain a mystery or be lost to the vagaries of time. It encourages viewers to reflect on the significance of those missed moments, those unfulfilled connections, or those experiences that will forever remain out of reach.

In a world where our first instinct is often to throw such failed Polaroids, this artwork serves as a poignant reminder that we should keep them, just as we keep our memories, even if they are sometimes very blurry. These Polaroids symbolize the value of cherishing and preserving not just the picture-perfect moments, but also those that are flawed and incomplete. They remind us that each moment, no matter how imperfect, contributes to the narrative of our lives, and we should hold onto them as a testament to the full spectrum of our experiences. "Don't Throw Them" is a heartfelt commentary on the limits of photography and a gentle nudge to appreciate the ephemeral and imperfect nature of existence.
