Biography

Hadi Moussally is a multidisciplinary artist working across film, photography, performance, and mixed media. Born in Lebanon in 1987, he is currently based between Paris and Barcelona.

At the age of 18, he moved to France to study filmmaking, earning a Master’s degree in Fiction Cinema from Université Paris-Est Marne-la-Vallée, followed by a Master’s in Documentary and Anthropological Cinema at Université Paris Nanterre, in the program founded by Jean Rouch. This dual training shaped his approach to image-making, combining the observational depth of cinéma du réel with a strong visual and narrative sensibility.

In 2013, he co-founded h7o7 with Olivier Pagny, a production platform dedicated to experimenting with still and moving images. His early works include the documentary Ma vieille grand-mère (2014) and the docu-portrait Bowl of Cherries (2016). Over time, his practice evolved towards hybrid forms, blending fiction, documentary, fashion, dance, and experimental cinema.

Since 2020, his work has developed into a distinctive hybrid language, exploring themes of identity, memory, and the body. Notable works include Bellydance Vogue (2020), selected in over 100 festivals worldwide, Space Woman (2021), acquired by Canal+ & distributed by Mad Solutions, and La Casquette (2022), winner of the France TV competition.

His films have been selected at more than 550 international festivals and have received over 70 awards. Alongside his film practice, his visual work has been presented in exhibitions across major institutions, including Guggenheim Bilbao, La Friche la Belle de Mai, UNESCO (Paris), the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A), Institut du Monde Arabe, Gallery C6, and Hôtel de Ville de Paris. He has also held two solo exhibitions, Searching for Lost Time and The Arabs Who Live in Me.

Hadi Moussally est un artiste pluridisciplinaire dont la pratique s’étend au cinéma, à la photographie, à la performance et aux arts visuels. Né au Liban en 1987, il vit et travaille entre Paris et Barcelone.

À l’âge de 18 ans, il s’installe en France pour étudier la réalisation. Il obtient un master en cinéma de fiction à l’Université Paris-Est Marne-la-Vallée, puis un master en cinéma documentaire et anthropologique à l’Université Paris Nanterre, au sein du programme fondé par Jean Rouch. Cette double formation façonne son approche de l’image, combinant la profondeur d’observation du cinéma du réel avec une forte sensibilité visuelle et narrative.

En 2013, il cofonde h7o7 avec Olivier Pagny, une société de production dédiée à l’expérimentation de l’image fixe et en mouvement. Il réalise ses premières œuvres, dont le documentaire Ma vieille grand-mère (2014) et le docu-portrait Bowl of Cherries (2016). Sa pratique évolue progressivement vers des formes hybrides, mêlant fiction, documentaire, mode, danse et cinéma expérimental.

Depuis 2020, son travail s’affirme à travers un langage hybride singulier, explorant les questions d’identité, de mémoire et de corps. Parmi ses œuvres notables figurent Bellydance Vogue (2020), sélectionné dans plus de 100 festivals à travers le monde, Space Woman (2021), acquis par Canal+ et distribué par Mad Solutions, et La Casquette (2022), lauréat du concours France TV.

Ses films ont été sélectionnés dans plus de 550 festivals internationaux et ont reçu plus de 70 prix.
